우울증의 중증도(mild to moderate, severe), psychotic feature 동반 여부 등을 고려해 치료전략을 수립한다.
경증 또는 중증 우울증에서 Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), Serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) 단독 처방이 추천된다. 그 중에서도 Escitalopram은 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) 선택성이 높아 약물상호작용이 적고 약물순응도가 우수하여 선호되며, 이외 fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, duloxetine, venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine, bupropion, mirtazapine이 1차 선택약제이다.
